INGREDIENTS:

For the Filling

- 6 medium-sized Apples (Golden Delicious or Honey Crisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

- 2 TBS Cornstarch

- 1/2 Cup pure cane sugar

- 1/4 Cup brown sugar

- 1/4 Cup Real Maple Syrup

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

 

For the Crisp Topping:

- 1 Cup old-fashioned oats

- 1/3 Cup all-purpose flour

- 1/3 Cup brown sugar

- 1/4 Cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans work well)

- 1/2 Cup unsalted melted butter

- 1 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice

- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon

- 1 teaspoon Sea Salt

Optional: Caramel Sauce

COOKING STEPS

  1. **Prepare the Smoker:**

   Begin by pre-heating your smoker to a temperature range of 225-250°F (107-121°C) using Apple, Cherry or Pecan wood.

  1. **Prepare the Filling:**

   In a spacious bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, & all-purpose flour & toss the ingredients thoroughly until the apples are thoroughly coated.

  1. **Prepare the Topping:**

   In a different bowl, merge old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, chopped nuts, Apple Pie Spice, Cinnamon & sea salt.

   Incorporate melted butter, to blend until achieving a crumbly mixture.

  1. **Assemble the Pie:**

   Evenly distribute the apple mixture into a smoker safe dish or cast-iron skillet. (Butter inside the skillet).

   Sprinkle the crumbly topping over the apples, ensuring complete coverage.

  1. **Smoke the Pie:**

   Position the dish or skillet in the preheated smoker.
